England Netball – London & South East Region

There are Regional Units in England covering the separate regions across the country. England Netball has nine Regions, each with a volunteer Regional Management Board and a team of staff including a Regional Manager, Regional Coordinator and Netball Development Officers. Each Region oversees Netball activity in their area covering competition, talent, educating the workforce, increasing participation and promoting Netball.  Each Region has their own website giving details of activities and contacts within the Counties and Region.

How to Play

Games are played on a rectangular court divided into thirds, with a raised goal at each short end. The object of the game is for teams to score goals, by passing a ball and shooting it into the opposing team’s goal. Each team has no more than 7 players on the court at a time.

Rules

Played between two teams of seven players.

Players are assigned “positions” that define their role within the team and restrict their movement on court.

During general play a player with the ball can take no more than one step before passing it.

A player with the ball must pass the ball or shoot for goal within three seconds.

Goals can only be scored by the assigned shooting players.

Matches are 60 minutes long, divided into four 15 minute quarters.

At the end of four quarters, the team with the most goals scored wins.

Middlesex County Netball Association

nmmml

MCNA is as old as England Netball. The County Association was formed in the late 1920’s. At the 1st international match against Scotland, Middlesex represented England. Apparently they caught the train to Glasgow, played the match, had a drink and a biscuit and then caught the train back!  Over the years Middlesex has had a number of players selected to represent England, we have also provided England with one of their most successful coaches – Mary Beardwood – bronze medallists at the 1998 Commonwealth Games, bronze meadallists at the 1999 World Championships, Mary also coached the England Under 21 squad to a bronze medal at the 1996 World Youth Championships.
